GROUP THERAPY - ETHOS PSYCHOLOGY

WHAT IS GROUP THERAPY?

Group therapy is a form of psychotherapy that involves one or more therapists working with several people at the same time. This type of therapy is widely available at a variety of locations such as private practice, hospitals, mental health clinics and community centres. Group therapy is sometimes used alone although is commonly integrated into a comprehensive treatment plan, which also includes individual therapy and/or medication.

HOW MANY IN A GROUP?

Groups can be as small as five people although usually involves around ten to twelve people. The group typically meets on a weekly basis spanning across a ten week period with fixed dates and times.

FEES AND REBATES

You may be eligible for a rebate of $49.05 from Medicare. You are required to obtain a Mental Health Care Plan alongside your referral letter to qualify for this service. Please discuss this further with your GP and you may need to book a double appointment to arrange these documents. The standard fee per Group Therapy session (90 minutes) is $120, payable prior to or at the end of the session by cash, card or bank transfer.

NUMBER OF SERVICES PER YEAR

A client can have access to up to ten (10) sessions per calendar year for group therapy. Group services are separate and do not count towards the individual services per calendar year. There is no requirement for a patient to be reviewed by their GP; however, clients will need a new referral from their GP after they have received the number of sessions stated on the referral, or the (10) maximum number of sessions allowed in a calendar year.

CURRENT GROUPs:

Group Therapy at Ethos Psychology is conducted in a safe, comfortable and non-judgmental space for participants to work, as a group, towards reaching their goals. Group Therapy is provided as closed groups, which means that participants have to register prior to the start of the group and are recommended to attend all sessions. This enables individuals to feel comfortable with the same participants every week.
